We got this as a ‘third DVD for free’. I expected it to be an Eastern martial spectacle, but after the first scene this is far from the truth. Two friends for life are sent out for war and when after the battle they are the only survivers, their histories start to play parts and the young men become fierce enemies. With flashbacks the viewer gets the story as to why the two men want to kill one another.
The film is not boring, but not really great. For the largest part the film is placed in a remote tavern in some snowy landscape with the two men contemplating on the past. Honour, friendship and blood-revenge are the themes that make this film somewhat interesting.
The DVD that we got says “Blood Brothers”, but “Showdown” seems to be another international title for this film.
