This is the mother of the films “Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas” and “The Rum Diary“. It is not as hilarious as Gilliam’s film, but this is another very amusing film based on the life of the weird Hunter S. Thompson about whom I also reviewed the documentary “Gonzo“. No Johnny Depp yet, but Bill Murray (!) in the great part of Thomson who, together with his even weirder (former) lawyer Lazlo (Peter Boyle) goes from one odd situation to another. Brilliant dialogues, even more brilliant monologues and complete madness following Thomson as he goes out to report the Super Bowl and Nixon’s reelection. Not as over the top as “Fear And Loathing”, but still recommended!
