And another haunted-house thriller/horror. This time lawyer clerk Joseph Kipps has to travel to the remote village Cryphin Gifford to examine the documentation of a deceased woman. The woman lived on a small island in a huge house. The island can only be reached by a dike during low water. This results in some nice shots and the sea-mist and entrance through the mansion’s graveyard immediately give the house a gloomy atmosphere. The locals avoid the house for several reasons. Daniel Radcliffe plays his first part after Harry Potter and he carries the film well. Inspite of the unoriginal story and predictable shock-effects the film has a nice atmosphere here and there. A nothing-new Hollywood ghost story, but not a terrible one.
