Thirteen * Cartherine Hardwicke * 2003

Films about the hard life of teenage girls don’t remain to be interesting. I mean “Heavenly Creatures” is superb, “The Virgin Suicides” is great, “Fucking Åmal” is nice, but how long can you be making films about the same subject? “Thirteen” is about a girl who was a dropout but became friends with the most popular girl from school. Of course she gets entangled in a web of drugs, sex and intimidation and her mother can no longer handle her. Not that this is a boring film, but nothing new. Maybe I’m just getting too old for this, or perhaps I’m not old enough yet!
