“The Solitude of Prime Numbers” is based on a book and since book-titles are usually translated, the same goes for this film. The story and the film are quite typical for an arthouse production, but Constanzo uses some experimental camera work and especially when the story flows from fact to fiction he comes up with a few beautiful scenes. There is nothing much mathemetical about the story. The prime numbers of the title are strange and unique characters (like prime numbers), both ‘socially incompetent’ and mentally children. Like prime numbers they form a pair but never really get together. The story is told with flashes from varying periods and only slowly solving the puzzle. This is very well worked out and combined with good acting and the earlier mentioned great camera work and experimentations, makes this a good, but not very cheerfull, film.
